What is Area Analytics?
Area Analytics is a tool for custom traffic analytics that delivers faster congestion insights for user-defined areas.
Area Analytics lets you choose areas and timeframes, compare data over time, and get fast, detailed insights — from neighborhoods to countries — using market-leading traffic data. For any chosen area and timeframe, you can see congestion levels, travel speeds, free-flow speeds, and travel times per 10 km. This makes it possible to understand traffic patterns and trends, benchmark across regions, and make mobility decisions with a cost-effective solution.
This documentation covers two ways to use Area Analytics:
- Area Analytics API — a set of RESTful APIs for developers who want to integrate custom area-based traffic analytics directly into their own applications.
- Area Analytics in the MOVE Portal — a ready-to-use reference implementation for defining areas and timeframes and viewing analyses through a web interface, no coding required.
Getting started
To enable the 30-day free trial of Area Analytics — whether through the MOVE Portal or the API — you’ll need to create a MOVE account at move.tomtom.com. Once your account is set up, you can:
- Define areas and generate analyses directly in MOVE for 30 days, or
- Retrieve an API key to start calling the Area Analytics API — once logged in to MOVE, your API key can be found in the menu.
